About Me
I'm originally from Panama City, but my family moved to Mobile when I was seven. I graduated from Murphy High in 1983 and ended up working and going to college in Oklahoma, Texas and again in Panama City... then I finally made it back to Mobile in 1990. I'm a single father of five wonderful children... Alana (20), Jenna (16), David (15), William (12), and Kayleigh (10). Alana is now married and living in New Hampshire with her husband Brian and their sons Mikey and twins Eddie and Chris... yes, I'm a grampa, and I love it!
I came to work at KSJ in October of 1999, and I started doing weeknights in January of 2003. I really enjoy what I'm doing now... and I plan on staying here as long as I can!
Favorite Female Country Singers: Faith Hill, Martina McBride, Taylor Swift Favorite Male Country Singers: Gary Allan, Brad Paisley, Dwight Yoakam, Toby Keith Favorite Country Groups: Montgomery Gentry, Alabama
Favorite TV Shows: Scrubs, The Office, Seinfeld, Monk, Psych, My Name Is Earl, Star Trek TOS, Space:1999, Miami Vice
Favorite Movies: BladeRunner, The Island, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Luther
To Sum It Up: I consider myself a very blessed man... as a father (and grandpa), and being a part of 95KSJ. I promise to always give you my best, and to always be myself! |

Hurricane Season On The Gulf Coast
Monday 09-08-2008 10:39pm CT
I love Mobile, and I couldn't imagine living anywhere but on the Gulf Coast! With all the positives, it's easy to forget that there are a few negatives.
Some you have to deal with regularly... like high humidity and thunderstorms during the long summers. Love bugs are an annoyance that (fortunately) only lasts for a few weeks at a time during the spring and around Labor Day.
And then, there are the infrequent (and unwelcome) visitors that go by unintimidating names like Camille, Frederick, Opal, Georges, Ivan and Katrina. Yes, it's hurricane season on the Gulf Coast!
What started out as a pretty quiet 2008 has developed into a busy season. We've had a total of ten named storms so far, and a recent scare from Hurricane Gustav. Another storm (Ike) may be heading toward the Gulf of Mexico, but doesn't look like it will be a threat to KSJ Country after all.
Quick, it's hurricane trivia time!
1. What was the first season that tropical storms were named with both female and male names? (yes, kids... there was a time when all storms had girls names!)
2. Storm names rotate every six years... unless a name is retired (in the case of a particularly damaging or deadly storm). 62 names have been retired... of those, 61 were hurricanes. Only one tropical storm has had it's name retired. What was the name, and what year?
3. A 1985 hurricane approached our area, bringing out storm warnings... then veered east; our warnings were dropped, then after heading toward Tampa, the storm made an abrupt west turn... and yes, warnings were issued again for the Mobile area (the storm eventually made landfall in MS). Can you name that storm?
Bonus Question: Where do most major mid-season hurricanes originate?
This is a great opportunity to remind you to visit Operation Stormwatch! (keyword: hurricane) Before, during, and after the storm, we've got you covered... from printable tracking charts, to checklists... from evacuation routes to shelter information and closings. And check out the real-time tracking, new for 2008. Everything you need to know to be prepared is all in one place!
Trivia Question Answers:
1. 1979 was the first season where both female and male names were used for storms. The second storm with a male name, David, caused over 2,000 deaths and 320 million dollars in damage. The third male-named storm, Frederick, made landfall at the AL/MS state line and caused over $2 billion in damage... both names were retired.
2. The only tropical storm (never reaching hurricane strength) whose name was retired was Allison in 2001. Torrential rainfall over several days caused $5 billion in damage and 40 deaths.
3. The erratic path of Hurricane Elena in 1985 caused it to approach the Mobile area twice, and prompted storm warnings on two occasions.
Bonus: "Cape Verde" storms develop near the Cape Verde islands, off the west coast of Africa. They are usually the most intense storms of the season because they often have plenty of warm open ocean over which to develop before encountering land.
The Donkey
Tuesday 08-05-2008 4:09pm CT
Young Chuck moved to Texas and bought a donkey from a farmer for $100.00. The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day. The next day he drove up and said, "Sorry son, but I have some bad news, the donkey died." Chuck replied, "Well, then just give me my money back." The farmer said, "Can't do that. I went and spent it already."
Chuck said, "Ok, then, just bring me the dead donkey." The farmer asked, "What ya gonna do with him?" Chuck said, "I'm going to raffle him off." The farmer said, "You can't raffle off a dead donkey!" Chuck said, "Sure I can! Watch me... I just won't tell anybody he's dead."
A month later, the farmer met up with Chuck and asked, "What happened with that dead donkey?" Chuck said, "I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars apiece and made a profit of $898.00."
The farmer said, "Didn't anyone complain?"
Chuck said, "Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two dollars back."
Chuck now works for the government.
